SUMMARY:

Episcopal High School located in Bellaire, Texas, built an expansion that included a new Field House and Learning Resource Center (LRC). Following construction, the Field House and LRC experienced cracks in the concrete floor slabs and the masonry exterior walls, due to movement of expansive soils. CCA was retained to investigate the cause of the soil movement and the resulting damage. CCA determined that the movement was related to the combination of design, construction and soil conditions. Appropriate scopes of repair to stabilize the structure were developed which included geotechnical and structural modifications.
