SUMMARY:
The gymnasium of the Claypit Hill Elementary School, located in Wayland, Massachusetts, suffered from a roof collapse. Hired by the Town of Wayland and their insurance carrier, CCA’s engineers and architects conducted inspections to assess the remaining building’s structural integrity and evaluated the school’s needs for a new gymnasium. The excessive loads imposed on the gymnasium’s roof structure caused the steel joists to deflect and ultimate collapse. Along with the failure analysis, CCA worked with the Town and School representatives to design, develop, and provide construction documents for a new gymnasium. CCA also provided construction administration during the reconstruction process. The new addition provided a state-of-the-art gymnasium with the town and the insurance carrier’s approval.
